Chopin was born at Zetazowa-Wola, Poland, February 22nd, 1810. He died October 17th, 1849 in Paris. His father was French and his mother a Pole of noble birth. He gave his first public bianoforte recital before he was ten years old. He was a great traveller and gave recitals in many parts of the world. His playing was of a rare delicacy, and he was opposed to the bombastic school of so many players and composers of the period. |

His compositions were too elusive for the majority, but later he was recognised as the greatest composer for the piano the world has known. His characteristics are, perfection of keyboard writing, craftsmanship of the first order, a warm and richly romantic structure, ornamentation and delicacy, plus the utmost brilliance, and a wonderful melodie outline. |
